About Jinashi Shakuhachi flutes:

"Ji" is a special paste used by traditional makers in Japan to shape the precision interior of a jiari shakuhachi. It is made of tonoko (a material like grout) mixed with plaster.

In Japanese, "Nashi" means "no" or "none". So, "Jinashi" means that no ji was used or, in other words, a flute that has a natural bamboo bore.
Now, with that being said, Jinashi is not a simple bore flute—it's actually quite the opposite. Usually it takes a lot more work to come up with a good jinashi shakuhachi as compared to a Cast Interior/Jiari style flute.
From finding the piece of bamboo with a natural bore that is correctly tapered to adding and removing material by hand to enhance the resonance of certain notes, there's a lot of effort that goes into making this type of flute.

The Jinashi shakuhachi I make have a powerful, beautiful, soothing tone with good pitch. Tuned to concert pitch – A440 @ 68°F room temperature. Traditional Japanese minor pentatonic scale.

Intended for any level of player.

Precision crafted acrylic utaguchi inlay on the blowing edge for long-term performance. Inlay features an outline of tarnish-resistant argentium sterling silver for elegance.

Non-toxic lacquer on the inside for beauty and durability.

Outside is finished with pure, premium natural Tung oil for increased bamboo stability.
